We are the teachers who take the Protestant Scripture at Summer Hill Public School.
We hope that this website gives you some of the information you need to help make an informed decision about Scripture for your child.
Can any child do Scripture?
Yes. There is time allocated for your child to do Scripture if you want them to do it. It does not matter what your background, you are welcome to choose what you would like.
What does ‘Protestant’ mean?
The term Protestant comes from the 1500s when people saw the way the church had moved from the plain teaching of the Bible. The following denominations would regard themselves as Protestant: Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, Uniting. Many independent Christian churches would also regard themselves as being Protestant.
Who will teach my child?
The teachers are all members of local Christian churches who are approved by the Department of Education and are individually authorised and trained to teach Protestant Scripture on behalf of their church.
What will my child be taught?
Activities are designed to help children engage with the Bible and help them understand it’s message. See the Curriculum page for more information.
Will my child be disadvantaged by doing Scripture?
Your child will not be disadvantaged in any way. No school work is undertaken while scripture is on.
